The Kada: A Symbol of Blessing, Protection, and Balance
Every devotee of Gurudev wears a “Kada,” usually received as a blessing during their very first visit to the Guru-Sthaan.
The Kada blessed by Gurudev is made of copper and silver. Copper represents Lord Shiva, while silver symbolizes Maa Parvati (Shakti). Together, they signify the union of divine power and grace.
The Kada creates both a physical and spiritual bond with Gurudev. It also establishes a connection between the body and the soul. The Shakti element of the Kada draws out a devotee’s difficulties, which are then surrendered (samarpit) to the powers of Lord Shiva — also present within the Kada — for resolution.
Wearing the Kada ensures constant protection, even when the devotee is physically away from Gurudev, for through this link, Gurudev’s spiritual presence and guidance remain ever accessible.
Scientific Relevance of the Kada
Just as stabilizers are used to protect delicate machines and electrical appliances, the human body — the most intricate and sensitive creation of God — also needs balance and protection. Our atmosphere is filled with cosmic rays from the sun and other celestial bodies. Every individual responds to these differently: some tolerate heat better, others show stronger resistance to infections.
The Kada functions like a natural stabilizer for the human body. It balances the effect of cosmic rays and strengthens the body’s resistance. For instance:
Copper and Health: It is well known that drinking water stored in copper vessels benefits health because traces of copper dissolve into the water, enhancing immunity. Similarly, when worn, the Kada allows minute amounts of copper to be absorbed through the skin, slowly boosting the body’s resistance.
Silver and Health: Small traces of silver are also absorbed, which have scientifically proven benefits for the body.
Another analogy can be seen in tall buildings, where a copper trident (trishul) is fixed on rooftops with a thick copper wire running into the ground. In the event of lightning, copper absorbs the electrical charge and safely transfers it into the earth, protecting the building. If copper can safeguard massive structures against natural forces, imagine the protection it provides when worn on the human body.
The Kada as a Spiritual Shield
Along with its scientific properties, once blessed by Gurudev, the Kada becomes infused with his divine powers. It transforms into a shield of complete protection, combining science, spirituality, and Gurudev’s blessings to safeguard and strengthen every devotee who wears it.
