Sacred Offerings of Gurudev: Laung, Elaichi, Jal, and Kali-Mirch
Gurudev blesses his devotees with Laung (clove) and Elaichi (cardamom) to free them from their problems and ailments.
The Laung represents the powers of Lord Shiva, while the Elaichi embodies the powers of Maa Parvati (Shakti). Once blessed by Gurudev, they carry divine energy infused by Him.
Laung is considered positive (male) and Elaichi negative (female). Just as the world functions through the balance of positive and negative forces — like electricity, which cannot flow if either charge is missing — life too thrives on this union.
When a Laung is placed vertically on a horizontally lying Elaichi, it resembles a Shivling, symbolizing the union of Shiv and Shakti.
The blessed Laung is to be swallowed (never chewed) at night with water. Spiritually, it gathers the devotee’s problems during sleep. The following morning, the Elaichi is taken; with the power of Shakti, it draws out the accumulated problems and submits them to Gurudev. The process is spiritual, so the devotee feels nothing physically but becomes gradually relieved of burdens.
The Power of Jal (Blessed Water)
Ordinary water, when touched and blessed by Gurudev, transforms into Jal. Sometimes saffron (kesar) is added. Jal carries Gurudev’s powers and heals many spiritual problems. When taken with Laung and Elaichi, the healing process becomes faster, as Gurudev channels His own energy into the devotee, bringing comfort to body and mind.
From a deeper spiritual perspective, the union of Laung and Elaichi signifies Shiv-Shakti within the human temple (body). Inward chanting of “Om Om Om” while consuming them symbolizes the establishment of a Shivling within. Drinking blessed Jal is like pouring sacred water on this inner Shivling, cleansing layer after layer of impurities (rajo guna and tamo guna) accumulated across lifetimes, and strengthening the pure sattva guna in the mind.
This process awakens cosmic energy, ensures the free flow of life force, removes ailments, enhances willpower, and clears the mind to realize one’s true self (Atma), which is inseparable from the Supreme (Paramatma).
Lessons from Jal
Jal itself teaches how life should be lived:
Be cool in both joy and adversity.
Maintain purity in thoughts, actions, and conduct.
Stay transparent in character, like clear water.
Keep flowing continuously, adjusting with circumstances, just as water changes its course when faced with obstacles.
Obstinacy disrupts life’s flow, leading to anger, jealousy, and hostility — which are not the purpose of life. Instead, adopting the qualities of Jal makes one realize the truth of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” — the whole world is one family.
Kali-Mirch: The Power of Maha-Shakti
Gurudev also blesses Kali-Mirch (black pepper) with divine power. It is specifically used to heal spiritual problems (Pret-Rog), which medical science cannot explain or cure. By Gurudev’s grace, devotees become both Rog-Mukt (free from ailments) and Dosh-Mukt (free from sins).
Grace Beyond Karma
All states of life are governed by karma. Joy comes from good deeds (punya) and suffering from sins (paap). No one can escape misery without increasing their balance of punya. But Gurudev, in His compassion, goes beyond — He alone can donate His own karmas (punya-daan) to devotees. Through Jal, Gurudev transfers His karmas and powers, which heal and uplift the devotee
The Essence: Faith in Gurudev
Above all, the key is faith. Whoever approaches Gurudev with a pure heart and unconditional belief is certain to be blessed, healed, and guided by His grace.
